Window Energy Rating

CRIMSAFE IS ENERGY EFFICIENT AND WERS RATED

WERS

Crimsafe Security Screens are the best product to protect your home or property from being broken into by burglars, but did you know that they are just as good at protecting your home from excessive heat build up?

WERS (Windows Energy Rating Scheme) now recognises that Crimsafe security screens improve the energy efficiency of your windows and doors.

How your windows perform affects the overall energy performance of your home, which in turn influences the comfort of your home's interior.

THE WINDOWS ENERGY RATING SCHEME

Every window in the Australian building market has been rated by WERS for its annual energy impact on a whole house, in any climate of Australia.

A major element of determining a windows WERS rating is its Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). Basically, the SHGC is the measure of how well a window blocks heat caused by sunlight. The lower the value of a window's SHGC, the less solar heat it transmits.

HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE WILL THIS MAKE TO MY HOME?

Crimsafe can decrease solar heat gain in your home by up to 53% keeping your home cooler in summer and restricting heat loss during winter. A reduced need for air-conditioning and artificial heating contributes to lower energy costs.

The greatest benefits are gained when Crimsafe is placed over your entire window not just over the opening portion.

HOW DO WERS RATINGS WORK WITH CRIMSAFE?

Up to 40% of heat gain and heat loss occurs through the windows of your home.

When Crimsafe is applied over a generic single glazed window the cooling efficiency of the window increases from zero stars; No additional benefit (fig 1), to a 3 Star WERS rating with a reduction in solar heat gain of UP TO 53%, keeping the interior of the home cool in the summer (fig 2).

In the winter months Crimsafe works with your windows to limit the escape of warmth from your home, and heat retention efficiency increases. The heating rating improves from zero stars; No heat retention benefits (fig 1), to a 1.5 Star WERS rating with Crimsafe applied (fig 2).

When Crimsafe is applied over 6.38 Clear Low E glass, the cooling rating increases from a 1.5 Star rating to a 4 Star rating greatly enhancing the cooling attributes of your glazing investment.

Annual energy performance (stars and % improvements) are calculated using Nationwide House Energy Rating Software according to procedures of WERS 2008 and the results are presented in Standard International Units.

INCREASE YOUR HOME'S ENERGY STAR RATING

Crimsafe gives your home the ability to gain higher home energy star ratings by applying Crimsafe security screens to existing window ratings.

SUSTAINABLE SECURITY

Households, architects, planners and urban developers are being urged to contribute to cleaner more sustainable living and Crimsafe now becomes an even smarter choice to provide your home with incredibly strong security that contributes to the overall energy efficiency and comfort of your home. LIGHT

When you look out through a Crimsafe screen you will see a near uninterrupted view because you're looking straight out through the squares in the Crimsafe mesh. Your Crimsafe screen will act as an effective sunshade, as the sun is at a steeper angle to the face of the mesh.
The amount of visible light allowed through a standard single glazed window will darken by roughly the same amount as adding a reflective film to the glass, however these films can increase the absorption of the sun's heat and in some cases it cause thermal stress fractures in the glass.

HEAT

Crimsafe reduces the amount of heat on the glass surface and therefore there is less heat transfer into the home and less risk of thermal fractures in the glass.
